Research has shown that the most transformational thing a group leader can do is pray for their group members by name daily. This proves something that we all intuitively know to be true. We don’t transform anyone, only the purifying power of the blood of Jesus Christ, the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, and the revelation of the Gospel through the Word of God can and does.
Our role is to ask God to be at work in the lives of those we’re discipling. I believe there are three things we should pray for for our group members daily if we’re going to see transformation take place in each of their lives.
- That they would spend time in God’s Word and in prayer daily.
- That they would allow the difficulties of life to drive them to God and His Word rather than pushing Him away in those moments and challenging situations.
- That they would give their lives everyday to bringing glory to Him by being, “doers of the Word and not hearers only.” (James 1:22)
If these prayers are answered, you will lead a group that is growing spiritually and becoming more and more like Jesus.
