When to Do Campaigns That Grow Your Small Group Ministry

Many churches have grown their church through campaigns. One thing’s for sure, a church-wide campaign has the ability to grow a small group ministry more quickly than almost anything. My friend Eddie Mosley, groups pastor at LifePoint Church in Smyrna, Tennessee uses campaigns to start new groups. During each campaign he enlists as many leaders as possible, recruits people who aren’t attending a group to be in one during the campaign (which lasts about six weeks). Then, late into the campaign he asks groups if they’d like to stay together. About 70% of those groups stay together after the campaign ends.

So… What are the best times to do a campaign? Steve Curran at Savannah Christian Church says it better than anyone I know. He calls it, “the three afters,”…

  • After Easter
  • After Christmas
  • After School Starts
